The History

Manarola is a small village included in the famous Cinque Terre (five lands) - together the towns include Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso. These villages are the heart and soul of the Ligurian Riveria.

The village has about 200 people who live there full time. You can get there by train (the best option). bcar and boat.
Cars are not allowed within the village which means there is a shuttle bus operated by the National Park or train to get you to and from each village. If you arrive by car, there is a public parking area which leads you to the center of
the church square. Here you will find the old oratory, the church and the bell tower in front of it.

As you continue to walk down into the village, you will pass the historic mill wheel of Andrean. Further along, you will pass many locally-owned shops and the train station tunnel. Just a bit further and you will finally reach the marina. There are two points of access to the sea, these concrete slips were once used for mooring boats.

The beautiful Ligurian sea is crisp and filled with many types of fish which you can see by the rocks using a snorkel. You will also find the wooden fishing boats of locals. Above the swimming area is a road to Palaedo  (another swimming spot). On top of this road, there is a playground called Punta Bonfiglio. This spot offers beautiful views of the sea, the village, and the next town Corniglia.

In the village, there are family-owned restaurants and bars where you can taste typical dishes and local wine.
